What is Measurement-Based Care?

Measurement-Based Care is an evidence-based method that systematically and regularly assesses client care and outcomes. This approach involves five key steps: using valid measures, collecting data, analyzing the data, sharing results by providing feedback and taking action based on the findings.

The Mind Alchemy Advantage

At Mind Alchemy, we ensure that you measure what you intend to measure, making sure it works effectively every time. Our approach guarantees that your assessments are accurate and actionable, leading to better outcomes and continuous improvement in care quality.

What are the Benefits of Measurement-Based Care?

  • Improved client outcomes (Aboraya et al., 2018; Fortney et al., 2017; Zhu et al., 2021)
  • Identification of non-responding clients: Without measurement, providers may not identify clients who are not responding to interventions or are at high risk for a nonresponse to treatment (Constantino et al., 2013; Walfish et al., 2012)
  • Improved outcomes for those identified as not improving and improved dropout rates (de Jong et al., 2021; Lambert et al., 2018)
  • Decreased costs and lowered the likelihood of worsening symptoms and leverage for quality improvement (Lewis, C. C., et al., 2019)(Connors et al., 2021; Lewis et al., 2019)
  • Improved outcomes for those identified as not improving (De Jong and colleagues, 2021)
  • Identification of non-responding clients: Without measurement, providers may not identify clients who are not responding to interventions or are at high risk for a nonresponse to treatment (Constantino et al., 2019; Walfish et al., 2012)

When might a clinician, clinic, or organization use Measurement-Based Care?

Key Performance Indicators (KPI)

A funding agency may require performance-based measurement for funding.  This necessitates identifying and measuring Key Performance areas as stipulated by the rules and regulations of that funding entity. Mind Alchemy can aid in conceptualizing how to measure, collect, maintain, and report that data.

Program Evaluation (PE)

You may want to know how well you serve your stakeholders and how to better serve them. This differs from Quality Improvement, though it overlaps because it often results in new programs rather than just improving existing care.

Quality Improvement (QI)

An organization may wish to improve its performance as an internal process. For example, it may seek to identify non-responders or even detect the early signs of non-responders. Mind Alchemy can assist in identifying the what, how, and when of that process to best meet your goals.

We specialize in developing Key Performance Indicator (KPI), Quality Improvement (QI), and Program Evaluation (PE) initiatives tailored to meet your organization's unique requirements, from inception to data collection and ongoing bespoke maintenance.
